As autumn descends on Bristol later this year it might seem like the festivals are all done – then Simple Things 2017 will remind us that in this city the music never stops.
A gathering of carefully-selected artists that raises spirits when the nights are drawing in, it’s a festival that those in the know will tell you is one of the best for fans of live music.
Last year’s version was a reminder of what a wonderful beast Simple Things is. From the USA we had John Carpenter playing some of his biggest scores live as part of the Sunday evening closing party, with scenes from films like Halloween, Christine, The Thing and They Live shown while the veteran played.
A multi-venue festival, the 2016 event saw the likes of Warpaint, Ben UFO, Death Grips and Kano play exhilarating sets, and while the 2017 line-up is yet to be revealed, the bar has been set high.
Who could forget Charlotte Church’s early morning set in the Colston Hall foyer with the packed staircases moving to some truly wonderful pop covers? Or Tim Sweeney’s DJ set in a heaving Lakota?
Keep a close eye on the Simple Things website to see what treats are coming our way later this year.
