Mayfest is Bristol’s unique annual festival of contemporary theatre – dedicated to presenting a broad range of unusual, playful and ambitious work from leading theatre makers from Bristol, the UK and beyond. Mayfest is produced by MAYK in collaboration with Bristol Old Vic and works in partnership with other key arts venues across Bristol to present work in both established theatre spaces and non-theatre spaces all over the city. Mayfest’s Artistic Directors are Matthew Austin and Kate Yedigaroff.
The 2016 programme includes:
‘Fake It Til You Make It’, an award-winning piece by real life couple Bryony Kimmings and Tim Grayburn, which explores clinical depression and relationships. A wickedly warming, brutally honest and heart-breaking show about the wonders and pitfalls of the human brain, being in love and what it takes to be a ‘real man’.
‘The Complete Deaths’, by Spymonkey & Tim Crouch – a remarkable performance taking you through all 74 of the onstage deaths in William Shakespeare’s body of work. The Complete Deaths will be a solemn, sombre and sublimely funny tribute to the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.
‘Of Riders & Running Horses’ is a stirring and visceral dance event by Still House created as a communal animation of urban spaces. A group of female dancers and a live band (Typesun) conjure a new kind of old dance, an insistent rhythm, a joyful step into what it means to move together. The music is a rider and the dancers are running horses.
