Manchester’s 1990s indie legends Black Grape and New York rockers Fun Lovin’ Criminals will be headlining Grillstock 2018, which returns to The Lloyds Amphitheatre on June 30th – 1st July.
Promising plenty of meat, music and mayhem Grillstock 2018 will see Shaun Ryder’s Black Grape take the headline slot on Saturday night, while festival favourites the Fun Lovin’ Criminals take to the stage on Sunday evening.
Formed after the breakup of The Happy Mondays, Black Grape brought together members of The Happy Mondays and the Ruthless Rap Assassins, creating a musical style that fuses funk and electronic rock with electro programming and sampling.
Multi-platinum New York trio Fun Lovin’ Criminals, headed by BBC 6 Music presenter Huey Morgan, are known for their global Tarantino sampling hit single ‘Scooby Snacks’ and a debut album that remained in the UK for an astonishing 100 weeks back in the 90s. The Trio made their Grillstock debut in 2014 with a performance that sealed their fates as Grillstock legends, so much so that Huey even contributed his own fried chicken recipe for the Grillstock cookbook in 2015.
Also playing on the Saturday are Brand New Heavies, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, The Mariachis and Dutty Moonshine Big Band. Joining the Sunday music bill are The South, Hackensaw Boys and The Wandering Hearts.
It just wouldn’t be Grillstock without the King of the Grill competition and this year 20 teams will be firing up their grills in hope of being named Grand Champion. This year the contest will be overseen by the Kansas City BBQ Society, the biggest name in competition BBQ.
Grillstock legends the Clifton Chilli Club will be bringing their infamous live chilli eating competition for those brave, or foolish enough, to enter. There will also be the customary hot dog and hot wing contests taking place on the main stage each day.
The festival will feature two music stages and pop-up performance spaces and the usual helping of BBQ and street food vendors sourced from the South West and all over the UK. The Grillstock Dive Bar will return with some of the finest craft beers and bourbon from around the globe.
Barry McMurdock, MD of Grillstock, said: “As far as festivals go, Grillstock is up there as one of the most fun, unique and entertaining events in the city. There aren’t many places you can go to see the best live music, incredible BBQ and beers as well as people eating the world’s hottest chillies for the crowd’s amusement!”
Tickets are now on sale at www.grillstock.co.uk. Saturday tickets are £32 and Sunday tickets are £27 with weekend tickets for £53 and children’s tickets for £10. The festival’s legendary Pit Crew tickets will cost £83 which includes beers, BBQ and merch vouchers as well as a weekend ticket and access to the legendary Firestarter party.
