Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival showcases the best international short filmmaking talent and features a diverse programme of screenings and special events.
The event, which is based at Bristol’s Watershed Cinema, takes short film submissions from all over the world and showcases them to audiences with multiple daily screenings.
The festival is highly regarded in the industry and recognised as a gateway to the Academy Awards® and leading film prizes in Europe, such as the BAFTAs and awards made by the European Film Academy and Cartoon D’Or.
As well as films, there are also regular personal appearances from pivotal figures in the industry. In 2017 Pierre Coffin, creator of the globally popular Minions from the Despicable Me series, spoke to audiences.
Also in 2017 the festival branched out into VR and AR, delving into these emerging forms of filmmaking and holding some breakthrough events to show what the latest technology is capable of.
Encounters is the longest-running competitive short film and animation festival in the UK, and provides a platform for emerging and established filmmakers from around the world, and a unique meeting place for the industry.
Tickets for the 2018 festival will go on sale in August. For more information and updates about entering your work see the festival’s official website.
